Kmax loves Sailing!
Sailed from Salt Spring to Pender Island in the rain. I love getting cold and wet and having my hand on the tiller for a long time. Was a fairly decent wind for the first leg, a few easy tacks and sailed almost right into the harbour before the wind died. Boat and navigation is functioning very well. I'v also improved my sailing skills this past year and feel ready for a trip the Queen Charlotte Islands throught the inside passage. Where this is all heading; a trip south all the way to Costa Rica to visit the cloud forest and my friend, nick, who has some land there with waterfalls and stuff.
There are more birds in the cloud forest than anywhere else in the world probably. Sailing down there would be the adventure of a life time for us. Then of course that's so close to panama and the canal. We could either go through the Canal and sail up the east coast of central America and out to the caribean via cube and nassau. I once was in Nassau and the scuba diving is crazy good. Water is very very clear, good visability and there are layers upon layers and swirls of different colored fish swimming about.
Alternately we could turn north west from Costa Rica and go the the hawaiian Islands. That is all half a year away though and i guess i'm just dreaming to get thgrough the winter. It's nice here where we are now anyway, the sun just came out!!!
I'm going to ride my bike to the gym and then come and get back to work.

New Developments
Just sailed back to Pender Island and anchored at Otter Bay last night. We sailed out from Ganges Harbour due to an infestation by giant reptiles which were stalking and eating the small sailing vessels and tugboats there. We had a favorable wind all the way to pender, wind was about 10 knots from the NW and we went wing on wing for the 2nd leg.
Our auto pilot is busted so i was on manual tiller the whole way and single handed for the most part, as Kathryn, a.k.a. Admiral Nimetz, had a snooze and made tea and such while i sailed her over.
It Was a golden rose colored sunset. Did not use the engine coming into Otter bay...sailed right in and dropped anchor in 20 feet of water. Put out 130 feet of chain and had spare anchor ready to go due to a weather watch for high winds. Lot's of fetch where we are right now, althogh convenient for the morning, not the wisest choice of anchorage really.
That's all for now...it's starting to get light out and it's overcast.
Oh yes..one more thing...i'm booked into a really good recording studio on Salt Spring Island for this Tuesday. I'm really really excited about it:-)) Daryl Chonka is going to enginneer the recordings for me which is great!!! His work is world class so once again i'm so stoked about it!!!

Working hard and working smart
Well i've been working pretty hard on a variety of web sites and maps. Chiefly on www.mapofsaltspring.com, www.mapofpender.com, www.roperresources.com and the Ptarmigan Music Society Website
While the map of Salt Spring Island that I created sold out for advertising in 3 days of marketing in the spring of 2009, Pender followed suit after about 2 months. Both are number 1 in search engines for the search terms, Saltspring Map, and Pender Map respectively. Chris Roper of Roper Resources is quite happy with his new web site and it's showing up very well in the search engines already; making the top 10 in google for key words such as "saab seaeye" and "AUV 62", two of his main underwater robotics products.
Soon Kathryn and I will be heading up to desolation sound on our sailboat, The SV Mystic and i'm looking forward to that!
It's been a great summer:-) Hope yours has been too!

Ok..i'm back and much is afoot. Lot's of travelling this summer as I checked out some of the other gulf islands. Salt Spring, Texada, Galiano, Pender, Saturna, Mayne, the San Juans, and Vancouver Islands were included in this series of road trips.
Would have been nice to do it by boat but i'm not quite there yet...only $20000 short though;-)
I've decided to get a sailboat and sail up to the Queen Charlotte Islands and then down to South America and then out to the South Pacific. Maybe stop at Easter Island on the way and say hey to my big stone buddies out there.

I've got a photo and sculpture exhibit coming up and i'm finally going to make the lamp that i was going to make like 10 years ago. It's a good idea but i can't say what it is yet.
It would be nice to have a partner in the sailing trip but i've not met a woman yet that i could live with on a boat and not go completely mad;-)
I'm good with a bit of solitute however. I like solitute. Not a hermit and can be very social also but i think i would be alright on my own on a boat for a while.

Soooo..i'm back to this blogging thing. Normally just use flickr to post photos and the occaisional poem.

Sotheby's just ordered a custom version so that's good and i got a new web site contract for a local DJ so that's good!
I'm well on my way now to earning that sailboat so that's all good too!
